Frutiger Home Crash & Fatal Error Fix (Launch and Placing)
Crashes are the main reason behind Frutiger Home’s few negative reviews. Some players cannot get past loading; others see a Fatal error! when placing certain objects. Here is what to try, in order.
1. Update the game
Five patches shipped between 29 September and 1 October 2026. Restart Steam so it pulls the latest version (v1.0.5 at the time of writing) before anything else. One early bug, items with missing colours capturing the cursor, was fixed in v1.0.1.
2. Lower the heavy settings
Frutiger Home is an Unreal Engine 5 game with reflective surfaces everywhere. Reviewers single out:
| Setting | Why |
|---|---|
| Ray tracing | Hardest on older cards; mirrors look worse without it but performance improves |
| Reflections | Second heaviest |
| Shadows | Expensive, and one player found them tiring on the eyes anyway |
| Bloom / Blur | Lighter, but lowering them can help the image look less hazy |
If the game crashes before you can reach the menu, check your GPU against the system requirements: the minimum is a GTX 1060 or RX 6600.
3. Send the crash files to the developer
frutigerdev asked a player whose PC crashed on every launch to send these files:
- Open File Explorer and paste this into the address bar:
%appdata%/../Local/FrutigerHome/Saved/Crashes(the same as%LOCALAPPDATA%\FrutigerHome\Saved\Crashes). - Open the folders whose names start with UECC.
- Zip the files inside and email them to frutigerdev@gmail.com, or DM the developer on the official Discord.
Fatal error while placing objects
One reviewer saw “Fatal error!” after placing a few specific objects. Note which item it was, send the crash files as above, and avoid that item until a patch. Your house saves as you decorate, so you rarely lose much.
The firewall prompt is not a crash
A Windows firewall dialog may appear on first launch. Declining it still lets you play and save, though co-op joining may need it allowed.
